Tuire Koponen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Education at the University of Jyväskylä, within the Faculty of Education and Psychology. Her research focuses on learning difficulties, particularly in mathematics and reading fluency, and the effectiveness of educational interventions. She has held roles as senior researcher in the InterLearn excellence center and co-leader in the EarlyMath project. Current projects include leading the EPM gaming consortium and contributing to JoMa and eTale initiatives.

Research Interests: Developmental profiles of arithmetic fluency, comorbidity of learning difficulties, early prediction of math difficulties using machine learning, and the role of home environments in math skill transmission. Her work emphasizes longitudinal studies and evidence-based interventions.
Grants & Projects: Currently leads BrightNumbers (€2.4M from RC Finland) and EPM gaming projects. Past projects include Flexibility in Mathematics series and Pathways to Math Difficulties (EU funding). Over 60 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals like Journal of Learning Disabilities.
Labs/Teams: Member of the InterLearn excellence center and part of multidisciplinary teams studying learning dynamics, including the VUOKKO longitudinal study tracking child development from toddlerhood to school years.
