Tudor Ratiu is a Chair Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (2016–present), Honorary Professor (emeritus) at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne (2015–present), and affiliated with the University of Geneva, Switzerland. His academic career includes prior roles as Professor of Mathematics at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (2014–2015), Director at the Bernoulli Center (2002–2014), and Chaired Professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (1998–2015). He also served as Professor and Emeritus Professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz (1988–2001), and in faculty positions at the University of Arizona and University of Michigan.
He earned a Ph.D. (1980) from the University of California, Berkeley, M.A. (1974) and B.Sc. (1973) from the West University of Timisoara, Romania, and a high school diploma from the Nikolaus Lenau German High School (1969).
- Research Interests: Stability theory, reduction theory, geometric mechanics, Hamiltonian dynamics, variational integrators, bifurcation theory, stochastic mechanics, and integrable systems (finite/infinite dimensional).
