Tsoumakas Grigorios

Tsoumakas Grigorios is a Professor of Machine Learning and Knowledge Discovery at the School of Informatics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) since 2024. He has served as Associate Professor (2020–2024), Assistant Professor (2013–2020), and Lecturer (2007–2013) at the same institution. Since 2024, he is also an Affiliate Researcher at Archimedes/RC Athena and the academic co-founder of Medoid AI, a university spin-off founded in 2019.

Research Interests: His work is centered on machine learning and natural language processing. Specific areas include ensemble methods, multi-target prediction, interpretability, semantic indexing, keyphrase extraction, and automatic summarization.

Scientific Recognition: He has published over 150 papers, with 20,000+ citations and an h-index of 53. He is a senior member of both IEEE and ACM.

• 2017 ECML PKDD 10-Year Test of Time Award
• 2021 Marco Ramoni Best Paper Award at AIME

Teaching & Outreach: He has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses including Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Advanced Topics in Machine Learning, and Object-Oriented Programming. He has also contributed to public discourse on AI safety and ethics through various media outlets.
