Tschoep Matthias

Dr. Matthias Tschöp is a Professor in the Division of Metabolic Diseases at the Technical University of Munich and serves as Chief Executive Officer and Scientific Director at Helmholtz Zentrum Muenchen, Germany. Additionally, he holds an Adjunct Professor position at Yale University since 2012.

• Education: Dr. med. (Magna Cum Laude) from Ludwig Maximilian University Munich (1998).

Dr. Tschöp's research focuses on the discovery and development of precision therapeutics for metabolic diseases, with a strong emphasis on translational approaches in diabetes, obesity, and metabolism. He investigates the interactions between gastrointestinal hormones and central neuronal networks, aiming to advance therapies for metabolic disorders.

In recent years, Dr. Tschöp has received numerous scientific awards, including the prestigious Ernst Jung Prize for Medicine (2021), Berthold Medal (2020), and the ERC Advanced Grant (2016). His work has also earned him membership in esteemed organizations like EMBO (2019) and the German National Academy of Science Leopoldina (2013).
