Prof. dr. Trudy Mooren is a Professor by Special Appointment in Clinical Psychology at Utrecht University's Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. She holds the chair 'Family functioning following psychotrauma' and delivered her inaugural lecture on December 2, 2022. As a clinical psychologist at ARQ Centrum '45, she specializes in treating youth and families affected by trauma, particularly refugees, asylum seekers, (ex)military personnel, and generations impacted by WWII. She serves as Head of Education for the postmaster clinical psychology program at RINOgroep.
Her research examines the impact of individual traumatization on family systems and social relationships, with emphasis on:
- Developing interventions for war/migration-affected families
- Multifamily group therapies
- Transgenerational trauma transmission
- Refugee mental health support networks
- Culturally sensitive trauma treatment approaches
Licensed in multiple therapeutic modalities including:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR Level II)
- Systemic Family Therapy (NVRG)

She leads research initiatives examining trauma impacts in Eritrean, Syrian, and Ukrainian refugee populations in the Netherlands and serves on scientific committees including the European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies.
