Troy L. Harris is an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Detroit Mercy’s School of Law. He specializes in international commercial arbitration, construction law, contracts, and alternative dispute resolution. His professional roles include serving on the American Arbitration Association’s International, Commercial, and Construction Panels of Arbitrators and as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Harris holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, and degrees from the University of Kansas. Prior to academia, he practiced construction law and international arbitration with King & Spalding. He served as Interim Dean of Detroit Mercy Law during the 2013–2014 academic year.
His research focuses on historical legal systems (e.g., 18th-century English ecclesiastical courts) and contemporary issues in international arbitration. Recent publications include the International Construction Arbitration Handbook and studies on legal pluralism and arbitration guidelines.
He is consistently recognized in legal directories such as Who's Who Legal and Best Lawyers in America. His presentations address topics like cross-border arbitration challenges, expert roles in construction disputes, and trade relationships under the USMCA.
