Trond Heir is an academic affiliated with the Adult Psychiatry Unit at the University of Oslo's Faculty of Medicine. His research focuses on trauma-related mental health, disaster response, and public health. Notably, he has studied post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in diverse populations including disaster survivors, individuals with congenital heart disease, and those with sensory impairments. He has also investigated the psychological impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, workplace terrorism, and chronic health conditions.
Key areas of expertise include: PTSD mechanisms, mental health disparities in marginalized groups (e.g., visually impaired individuals, refugees), and the interplay between physical health conditions and psychological outcomes. His work spans epidemiological studies, clinical research, and intervention development.
