Trinh Cam Lan

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Trinh Cam Lan is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Linguistics, Vietnamese Language and Vietnam Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. She has been actively contributing to Vietnamese linguistics since 1997, with a focus on dialectology, sociolinguistics, and language teaching methodology. Her academic journey has spanned from lecturer positions at the Faculty of Oriental Studies to her current role in Linguistics.

Her educational background includes:

• Bachelor's degree in Linguistics from Hanoi University of Science (1992)
• Master's degree in Linguistics from University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (1995)
• PhD in Linguistics from University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (2005)
• Associate Professor title conferred in 2010

Dr. Lan's research primarily focuses on Vietnamese dialectology, particularly urban linguistic phenomena and language variation in Hanoi. She has conducted extensive research on language contact, social dialects, and the impact of urbanization on language change. Her work often examines specific regional dialects like Nghe Tinh and Son Tay, analyzing phonetic, lexical, and grammatical variations. She has also made significant contributions to language teaching methodology, especially for Vietnamese as a foreign language, and has been involved in developing national Vietnamese language textbooks for primary education.

Her recent scholarly output demonstrates a continued focus on Vietnamese dialect geography, historical linguistics, and the sociolinguistic dimensions of language use. She frequently publishes in Vietnamese linguistic journals and has several international publications indexed in Web of Science.

Her scientific recognition includes:

• Award from Vietnam Linguistics Association for outstanding scientific work (2010) for her monograph "Sự biến đổi ngôn từ của các cộng đồng chuyển cư đến Thủ đô (Nghiên cứu trường hợp cộng đồng Nghệ Tĩnh ở Hà Nội)"

Dr. Lan has supervised 3 PhD graduates and is currently guiding 4 PhD candidates. She has also mentored 19 Master's students to completion. Her research leadership includes principal investigator roles for multiple university-level projects, most recently a 2020-2022 project on phonetic and lexical variation mapping in suburban Hanoi districts. She has also contributed to significant national projects including the Dong Anh Geographical Dictionary.

She is actively engaged in professional organizations as a member of the Vietnam Linguistics Association, its Executive Committee, and the Hanoi Linguistics Association, contributing to the broader academic community through conference participation and editorial work.
