Trevor Owens is a Professor at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and leads the Neurobiology Research Unit at the Institute of Molecular Medicine. His work focuses on neuroimmunology, specifically the cellular and molecular interactions in central nervous system (CNS) inflammation related to Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO). He has held academic positions at McGill University (1987–2006) and SDU (2004–present), including Adjunct Professor roles since 2006.
- Academic Qualifications: B.Sc. (1974), M.Sc. (1977) from McGill University; Ph.D. (1981) from University of Ottawa.
Research Interests center on CNS inflammation, microglia-astrocyte interactions, T-cell-mediated autoimmunity (MS), and antibody-driven demyelination (NMO). His lab explores interferon signaling, toll-like receptors, and innate immune pathways in neurodegenerative diseases.
Editorial & Leadership Roles include serving as President of the Scandinavian Society for Immunology (2015–2020) and editorial board member for J Neuropathol Exp Neurol, Glia, and Scand J Immunol.
