معرفی
Dr. Trevor F. Moraes is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Toronto, holding a Tier II Canada Research Chair in Structural Biology of Membrane Proteins (2012-2022). His research focuses on structural and functional characterization of bacterial membrane protein complexes involved in pathogenesis, nutrient uptake, and CRISPR-Cas inhibition.
- Structural Biology of Membrane Proteins
- Vaccine Development Against Gram-Negative Pathogens
- CRISPR-Cas9 Inhibition Mechanisms
- Nutrient Acquisition Systems (Iron, Heme, Phosphate)
Dr. Moraes employs X-ray crystallography and molecular approaches to study these systems. His lab has identified key proteins like Slam, critical for bacterial virulence and vaccine targets. Awards include the Early Researcher Award (2014-2018) and CRC Tier II.
- Structural characterization of transferrin-binding protein B (TbpB)
- CRISPR-Cas9 anti-activator proteins
- Slam-dependent surface lipoprotein translocation
In teaching, Dr. Moraes leads courses like BCH 2101H (Scientific Skills) and JBB2025H (Protein Crystallography). His lab collaborates with teams such as the Gray-Owen and Pomès labs, contributing to structural biology advancements in bacterial pathogenesis.
