Dr. Trevor DeVries is a Professor and Canada Research Chair in Dairy Cattle Behaviour and Welfare at the University of Guelph's Ontario Agricultural College, Department of Animal Biosciences. He holds a B.Sc. (Honours) in Agriculture (2001) and a Ph.D. in Animal Science (2006) from the University of British Columbia. His research focuses on dairy cattle behavior, nutrition, health, and welfare, particularly in automated milking systems (AMS) and calf development.
Key research areas include feeding management effects on cow behavior, early-life calf nutrition, and AMS integration. He teaches undergraduate/graduate courses on dairy management, advises the Dairy Challenge team, and mentors students in animal science. Awards include the 2021 Metacam® Bovine Welfare Award and JDS 100 Club Award (2019). His work bridges applied science and industry needs, emphasizing solutions for livestock health, welfare, and farm profitability.
Recent publications (2021–2025) address AMS optimization, calf health, and metabolic disorders. Collaborations include the Canadian Society of Animal Science and American Dairy Science Association. He actively engages with the dairy industry through conferences and extension programs.
