Dr. Trevor A. Hamlin is an Assistant Professor at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, affiliated with the Faculty of Science and the Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences department. He also holds an appointment at AIMMS (Advanced Imaging and Material Science). His research focuses on computational chemistry, organic synthesis, and catalysis, particularly employing density functional theory (DFT) to study reaction mechanisms, molecular orbital interactions, and catalyst design.
Key research areas include:
- Organocatalyzed Diels-Alder reactions and hydrogen bond donor catalysts
- Iron- and palladium-catalyzed activation of carbon-halogen bonds
- Design of metallylenes for hydrogenation and small molecule activation
- Computational benchmarks of DFT methods for bond stability and reaction pathways
He teaches courses in Advanced Computational Chemistry, Analytical NMR Spectroscopy, Molecular Modelling, and Physical Organic Chemistry. Dr. Hamlin has supervised 8 PhD theses and contributed to the Computational Chemistry Made Easy project (2015–2017). His work involves collaborations in crystal structure determination (e.g., CCDC datasets) and has been cited across chemistry disciplines.
Recent publications highlight studies on organodichalcogenide stability, alkyl radical reactions, and zirconium-catalyzed macrocyclization. His research aligns with sustainable chemistry goals through innovative catalytic methodologies and computational insights.
