Tremaine Williams

Tremaine Williams is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine and serves as Assistant Dean for the UAMS Graduate School. His research focuses on organizational and behavioral determinants of clinical information quality, leveraging social and behavioral science to improve electronic health record (EHR) design and usability. His KL2-funded project examines how electronic medical record (EMR) information flow among primary care teams impacts care outcomes for medically complex patients, aiming to reduce healthcare costs and enhance care quality.

Dr. Williams’ work addresses the growing challenge of multiple chronic conditions (MCCs), particularly in Arkansas, where prevalence is among the highest nationally. His interventions target improving EHR usability and optimizing clinical team collaboration to better manage medically complex patient populations. Key areas include analyzing social networks within clinical teams and identifying EMR information flow needs to align with value-based care models.

His research mentors include experts in clinical informatics and healthcare analytics, such as Kevin W. Sexton (Associate Director of Healthcare Analytics) and Thomas Powell (Director of Clinical Informatics Consultation). The project’s findings aim to inform both clinical practice and healthcare policy to address systemic inefficiencies in managing high-cost, high-need patients.
