Trajko Slaveski serves as a Full Professor and Chair of Economics at the Faculty of Economics, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, North Macedonia. He maintains active office hours on Mondays and Wednesdays (09:00-11:00) and engages in teaching, research, and policy development within the Department of Economics.
His academic foundation includes graduation from the Faculty of Economics at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University, followed by graduate studies at California State University, Chico (1986/87) and Harvard University as a Fulbright Scholar (1989/90). He has held visiting positions at Arizona State University (1997) and the National and Capodistrian University in Athens (1999-2006).
Prof. Slaveski's research spans critical economic domains including transition economies, privatization, monetary-fiscal policy interplay, state functions, and corruption economics. His work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical policy implementation, particularly in post-socialist economic restructuring contexts. He has significantly influenced Macedonia's economic trajectory through government roles while maintaining academic rigor in analyzing systemic economic challenges.
His scientific recognition includes the Fulbright Scholarship. Notable government appointments comprise Minister of Development (1999-2000), Minister of Finance (2006-2009), and member of the City of Skopje Council (2005-2006). As Finance Minister, he spearheaded tax system reforms, payment system modernization, and fiscal crisis management during the 2007-2009 Great Recession.
Prof. Slaveski has authored six books and numerous scholarly publications. He managed pivotal national projects including Macedonia 2003 Development Strategy, National Poverty Reduction Strategy, and Pre-Accession Economic Programs. From 2015-2017, he contributed to higher education quality assurance as a member of Macedonia's Accreditation and Evaluation Board.
