Tracye Proffitt is Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing at Virginia Commonwealth University, specializing in critical care outcomes and recovery trajectories for intensive care unit survivors. Her research examines the complex relationship between cognitive impairment, physical dysfunction, and psychological symptoms in patients recovering from critical illness.
Proffitt investigates post-intensive care syndrome manifestations, including traumatic memories and sensory triggers affecting recovery. Her work documents delirium recognition practices in pediatric oncology settings and develops assessment protocols for identifying symptom clusters in ICU survivors. Recent studies analyze the interconnected nature of cognitive, physical, and psychological challenges facing critical care survivors.
She teaches pathophysiology, pharmacology, evidence-based practice, and healthcare ethics across undergraduate and graduate nursing programs.
