Dr. Tracy Wong serves as Assistant Professor and Director of the Laurier Singers & Concert Choir at Wilfrid Laurier University's Faculty of Music. A Malaysian-born choral conductor, composer, and educator, she specializes in creating culturally inclusive musical experiences that bridge Southeast Asian heritage with contemporary choral practice.
Her research centers on choral conducting pedagogy, rehearsal techniques, and the development of repertoire representing the Asian diaspora. Wong actively pioneers creative collaborations through commissioned works, international workshops, and artist residencies that empower choral educators to deliver transformative student experiences grounded in cultural representation.
Analysis of her compositional output reveals a deliberate trajectory toward amplifying marginalized voices through multilingual texts (particularly Malay), traditional Southeast Asian musical elements, and innovative vocal techniques. Her works consistently integrate body percussion, cultural proverbs, and themes of unity, with increasing sophistication in voicing flexibility across diverse choir configurations.
Wong directs the Laurier Singers and Concert Choir while cultivating external partnerships through the Tracy Wong Choral Music Series. This initiative includes 'Music With A Purpose' (featuring community-focused compositions) and 'Purchasing With A Purpose' (redirecting proceeds to support Malaysian choral education), demonstrating her commitment to sustainable cultural exchange beyond the academy.
