Professor Tracey Devonport is a Professor of Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology in the Department of Sport at Hartpury University. She is actively engaged in research, teaching, and supervision, and is currently accepting PhD students. Her work bridges sport psychology and general psychological principles such as stress, coping, and emotion regulation.
Her research interests are centered on stress and coping, psychology of eating, weight, and weight making, and mentoring. These areas are reflected in her extensive publication record and research fingerprint, which highlights emotion regulation, coping behavior, emotional intelligence, and self-efficacy as core themes. She applies both qualitative and quantitative methods, often in elite athlete and health contexts.
The most recent articles show a strong trend in exploring psychological well-being through sport and exercise, including studies on dual-career athletes, elite judo, combat sport nutrition, open water swimming, and maternal self-care. Her work increasingly integrates real-world applications, such as online peer support for gambling harm, indicating a translational research focus.
She is the Principal Investigator on an active research project titled Online peer support for Gambling Harm (2024–2027), which explores support mechanisms for minoritized groups. She has secured research funding and leads collaborative work across disciplines and institutions.
