Torsten Wilholt

Prof. Dr. Torsten Wilholt is a philosopher of science at the Institute of Philosophy, Leibniz University Hannover, where he joined the faculty in 2011. As Co-director of the SOCRATES project, he investigates the epistemological challenges of scientific credibility – particularly the tension between being trusted and being trustworthy in science communication and societal contexts.

His research focuses on:

• Conditions of contemporary scientific knowledge generation
• Epistemological foundations of scientific authority
• Philosophy of scientific expertise under societal dependence
• Reconciling social legitimacy with epistemic integrity
