Her academic roles include leadership in medical education programs for young women and extensive administrative service at the University of Oslo and Norwegian research councils.
Education:
- Doctor Odontologia, University of Oslo, 1978
- Dental Degree, University of Oslo, 1972
- Fellowships from Norwegian Research Council (1975–1978) and American Association of University Women (1973)
- Advanced course in biomedical research management, Harvard University School of Public Health (1989)
Research Interests: Hypertension mechanisms, sympathetic nervous system regulation, adrenergic receptor signaling, and cardiovascular physiology. Her work focuses on autonomic dysfunction in hypertension, gender differences in blood pressure control, and ion channel roles in catecholamine release. Recent studies explore Kv7 potassium channels’ impact on vascular resistance and Parkinson’s disease through AQP9 deletion.
Publications Trends: Over 80 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters since 1977. Key themes include hypertension pathophysiology, adrenergic receptor interactions, and vascular dynamics in animal models. Recent work emphasizes gender-specific mechanisms and therapeutic targets in hypertension.
Awards:
- Olav Torgersen's Prize for research (1988)
- Multiple international poster prizes at kinin symposia (1984–1995)
Grants & Leadership: Directed research at Norwegian Hydro a.s. (1988), chaired boards for research institutions linking academia and industry, and held leadership roles in medical research councils. Active in national and international committees for research funding and ethics.
