Torfi Sigurdsson

Dr. Torfi Sigurdsson is a researcher at the Institute of Neurophysiology within the Neuroscience Center at Goethe University Frankfurt. He leads a research group focused on understanding neural mechanisms supporting cognition and goal-directed behavior, particularly in the context of neuropsychiatric diseases like schizophrenia.

His research emphasizes inter-areal coordination networks between the prefrontal cortex and subcortical structures, utilizing techniques such as large-scale electrophysiological recordings, microendoscopic calcium imaging, and optogenetic manipulations in mice. These studies aim to uncover how disruptions in brain network synchrony contribute to cognitive impairments in psychiatric models.
