Tor Gjøen

Tor Gjøen is a Professor at the Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences, School of Pharmacy, University of Oslo. His research focuses on host-pathogen interactions in fish, particularly using infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV) and infectious salmon anemia virus (ISAV) as model systems. He investigates viral mechanisms in Atlantic salmon cells and evaluates dietary lipid impacts on immune function in aquaculture. His work integrates genomic, biochemical, and morphological analyses to advance vaccine development for fish diseases.

Teaching includes master’s programs in pharmacy, covering foundational biology, drug mechanisms, quality control, and pharmaceutical production. He has held academic roles since 1996, including postdoctoral research at the University of Oslo and a visiting scientist position at The Scripps Research Institute.

Key collaborations involve institutions like NOFIMA, the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science, and the University of Reading. Research interests span virology, immunology, lipid metabolism, and biotechnology, with a focus on sustainable aquaculture practices.

His projects include EU-COVID-19 risk assessments and viral immunity studies. He is affiliated with networks like ENOVA (European Network of Vaccine Adjuvants), emphasizing translational vaccine research.
