Tony G. Chen is an incoming Assistant Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology, starting in summer 2025, specializing in mechanical intelligence for robotics applications. Previously, he served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University (2024) and holds advanced degrees from Stanford University.
His educational background includes:
- Postdoctoral Fellow, Harvard University, 2024
- Ph.D., Stanford University, 2023
- M.S., Stanford University, 2020
- B.S., Georgia Institute of Technology, 2017
Chen's research pioneers mechanical intelligence—designing physical mechanisms that inherently simplify perception, control, and autonomy challenges in unstructured environments through rapid prototyping and bio-inspiration. His work spans three critical domains: (i) field robotics for developing novel mobility platforms with manipulation capabilities, (ii) dexterous manipulation systems for home and industrial settings, and (iii) biomimetic robotics for biological research. This interdisciplinary approach bridges mechanical engineering and autonomous systems to create inherently robust robotic solutions.
As an incoming faculty member, Dr. Chen will establish his research laboratory, mentor graduate students, and pursue major research grants in robotics innovation. His work positions him at the forefront of next-generation robotic systems for real-world deployment.
