Tony Connolly

Professor Tony Connolly is the Executive Dean of the Australian National University (ANU) College of Law, Governance and Policy. He specializes in legal philosophy, Indigenous rights law, and public law, with a focus on the legal regulation of cognition and communication, legal modes of intercultural recognition, and Indigenous self-determination.

• B.A.LLB (Hons) from the University of Western Australia
• Ph.D. in philosophy from ANU (supervised by Philip Pettit and Robert Goodin)
• Masters in Education from ANU

His research bridges legal theory with practical applications in Indigenous rights discourse and cultural heritage protection. Recent works analyze judicial concept acquisition and legal pluralism. He also leads educational reform initiatives at ANU Law School.

Current projects include a book on global Indigenous rights. He has supervised multiple PhD candidates, including James Gaetani and Gemmo Fernandez, and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Federal Law Review.
