Tonny Beentjes is a Programme Leader in Metal Conservation and Researcher at the University of Amsterdam. Trained initially as a goldsmith and later in metal conservation, he led the metal conservation programme at West Dean College (UK) for a decade before returning to the Netherlands. His research focuses on historical metalworking technologies, including Rodin bronze casting techniques and sand mould sculpture casting. He also explores applications of 3D technology in conservation.

Research interests include early plating methods, Renaissance life-casting techniques through object analysis, manuscripts, and experimental reconstructions. Collaborates with Columbia University's Pamela H. Smith on Renaissance techniques. Served as Expert Maker in residence for the Making and Knowing Project. Holds fellowships from Samuel Kress Foundation and Getty Research Institute.
