Tonje Vold is a Professor of Nordic Literature at the University of Oslo's Department of Literature, Area Studies, and European Languages (ILN), affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities. Her research focuses on intersections between literature and societal issues, including postcolonial theory, feminist activism, and global literary studies. She holds a PhD in General Literary Studies from the University of Oslo (2010) after research at the University of Cape Town on J.M. Coetzee’s novels and post-apartheid literature.
Her academic interests span literary sociology, democracy studies, and contemporary Nordic/Afro-Nordic literature. She has served on prominent cultural committees including the Dobloug Committee, Gyldendal Scholarship Jury, and Norwegian Arts Council’s Prose Committee. Vold teaches courses like Literary Activism and World Literature in a Multicultural Context, blending theory with practical cultural analysis.
Her research projects include Minority Literary Voices in Contemporary Scandinavia and Aesthetics and Politics. She is an active literary critic for Morgenbladet, emphasizing diversity in Nordic literary institutions and publishing practices. Vold’s work bridges academic research and public cultural engagement, advocating for inclusive literary spaces and decolonial methodologies.
