Tonje Steen

Tonje Steen serves as a University Lecturer at the Department of Social Sciences within the Faculty of Social Sciences at Oslo Metropolitan University.

Her research centers on service organization and innovation in social work and child welfare, with specific focus areas including:

• Parental experiences in child welfare investigations and assessments
• Digital storytelling applications in social work pedagogy
• Interprofessional collaboration between child welfare services and schools
• Innovation in service delivery for parents and children
• Ethical dilemmas in welfare service interventions

Recent publications (2023-2025) reveal a strong interdisciplinary focus bridging social work practice, child welfare systems, and digital education methodologies. Her work consistently examines power dynamics in welfare assessments and explores innovative pedagogical approaches for professional training.

Steen actively participates in the Service organization and innovation in social work and child welfare research group and leads the Centers for parents and children project, which investigates parental experiences with child and family center assessments and collaboration with child welfare services.
