Tonia Vincent is Professor of Musculoskeletal Biology at the University of Oxford, affiliated with the Kennedy Institute. She serves as Associate Director of the Kennedy Institute and directs the Versus Arthritis-funded Centre for OA Pathogenesis. Clinically, she is a consultant rheumatologist and leads the multidisciplinary Marfan Syndrome clinic.
- Education: Medicine at UCL (qualified 1993), PhD in Rheumatology (2002)
Her research focuses on mechanosensitive pathways in cartilage, the role of the pericellular matrix, and molecular endotypes in OA. Her group pioneered studies on spontaneous late OA pain and NGF modulation in murine models. She leads the STEUP OA consortium, aiming to define molecular endotypes for precision medicine.
Recent publications highlight her work on translational pipelines, ADAMTS-5 inhibitors, and retinoic acid metabolism in OA. She emphasizes pro-regenerative therapies as future disease-modifying strategies.
Her funding sources include Versus Arthritis, MRC, ERC, and Kennedy Trust. She has created infrastructure to bridge basic science to clinical testing in OA.
