Tomika L. Ferguson

Tomika L. Ferguson is Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and Inclusive Excellence and Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership at Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Education. Her research examines the intersection of race, gender, sport, and educational equity, focusing on Black girls and women in K-12 and higher education, athletic identity development, and inclusive leadership practices.

Her scholarship investigates college athlete experiences, educational equity, and community-engaged activism, particularly through the lens of critical race theory and intersectionality.

Publications explore racial equity in athletic programs, critical dialogues in educational settings, and institutional responses to crises affecting minoritized athletes. Recent work examines safe spaces as resistance mechanisms and historical perspectives on sport sociology.

She founded the Black Athlete Sister Circle (BASC) holistic development program for Black women student-athletes and has received multiple honors including the IWLCA President's Award and VCU mentoring awards.
