Tomi Seppälä is a Professor at the University of Turku's Turku School of Economics, holding positions in the Department of Information and Service Management. He holds a Doctoral degree in Business and Economics from Purdue University (1994), and prior degrees from the University of Helsinki (Master's 1986, Bachelor's 1983). His academic roles have included Senior Fellow, Senior Research Fellow, and adjunct positions at LUT University and Turku School of Economics.
His research spans strategic decision-making, portfolio optimization, healthcare epidemiology, and management accounting. Notable contributions include studies on miscarriage treatment outcomes (2023-2025), risk analysis in strategic investments (2025), and drawdown optimization models (2022-2024). He has received the Best Paper Award at the Management Accounting Research Group Conference (2024).
Research interests emphasize data-driven decision frameworks, with applications in finance, healthcare, and environmental economics. Recent work combines machine learning with traditional research methods to uncover patterns in dynamic systems.
