Dr Tom Kingstone is a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health and Wellbeing at Keele University's School of Medicine. He holds a BSc in Criminology and Psychology (2006) and an MRes in Social Science Research Methods (Keele University). His PhD (2012) explored chronic pain in rural-dwelling older adults. He leads the Mental Health and Wellbeing Research Theme, collaborating with the Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.
His research focuses on mental health across lifespans, including anxiety/depression in older adults, perinatal mental health, and qualitative methods like mobile interviews and photo-elicitation. He advocates for patient involvement and has secured grants from NIHR and the Health Foundation. During the pandemic, he co-led work on Long-COVID awareness with Prof Carolyn Chew-Graham.
Teaching includes research methods for healthcare students and directing Keele's STARS research training program. He co-leads an online FutureLearn course on research basics. Supervision spans MPhil/PhD students, including medical students through INSPIRE/ASPIRE programs.
Additional roles: Deputy Chair of the Faculty Research Ethics Committee, NIHR Regional Advisory Committee member, and Editorial Board member for Health Expectations. His work bridges academia and healthcare practice, emphasizing community engagement and innovative interventions.
