Tom Güldemann is a Professor for African Linguistics and Sociolinguistics at the Institute for Asian and African Studies (IAAW), Humboldt University Berlin. He has held positions at the University of Zurich (Assistant Professor, 2007–2009) and research roles at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology (2000–2015), Leipzig University (1996–2000), and the University of Cologne (1995–1996).
- Research Focus: African historical linguistics, language typology, interdisciplinary population prehistory, syntax, discourse analysis, and documentation of Khoisan/Bantu language families.
Scientific Awards: Recipient of the Heisenberg Scholarship (DFG, 2002–2006), Habilitation Scholarship (Volkswagen-Stiftung, 1996–2000), and Ph.D. Scholarship (Nordrhein-Westfalen, 1993–1995).
