Dr. Toe Aung is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology and Counseling at Immaculata University, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in psychology. His academic background includes a Ph.D. and M.A. in Anthropology from Pennsylvania State University and a B.S. in Psychobiology from Albright College.
His research lies at the intersection of evolutionary and cross-cultural psychology, with a focus on vocal cues, sex differences, mating psychology, and hormonal influences on human behavior. He explores how physical and vocal traits signal dominance, formidability, and attractiveness across cultures.
Dr. Aung has published in high-impact journals such as Nature Communications, Scientific Reports, and Evolution and Human Behavior. His recent work examines voice pitch as a cue to fighting ability, dominance, and mate selection, as well as cross-cultural patterns in intersexual selection. He also contributes to reference works in sexual psychology.
He is an active member of the Northeastern Evolutionary Psychology Society and serves on the editorial boards of Evolutionary Psychology and Evolutionary Psychological Science.
Dr. Aung is committed to fostering critical thinking and an inclusive learning environment. He teaches courses including Cross-cultural Psychology, Evolutionary Psychology, Statistics, and Lifespan Development.
