Todor Koiv

Dr. Todor Koiv is a linguist at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, affiliated with the Abrahams-Curiel Department of Foreign Literatures and Linguistics in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Born and raised in Bulgaria, he earned his undergraduate degree in philosophy and business administration at Sofia University before completing his doctorate in linguistics at Rutgers University. With a decade of postdoctoral experience in Germany (Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, Konstanz), he has worked as a postdoctoral fellow, project leader, and visiting professor.

His research focuses on semantics, a branch of theoretical linguistics exploring how word meanings combine into sentences and interact with linguistic context. He emphasizes subconscious rules governing human languages, which are never explicitly learned but observable through native speaker analysis.
