Tobin Driscoll is the UNIDEL Professor of Mathematical Sciences and Director of the Master of Science in Data Science program at the University of Delaware's College of Arts & Sciences. His research focuses on numerical analysis, mathematical modeling, and computational methods with applications in biomedical engineering and data science. He holds a leadership role in interdisciplinary programs, including the Data Science Institute and the Mathematical Sciences department. His work bridges theoretical mathematics with practical applications, particularly in tear film dynamics and scientific computing.
Driscoll's academic contributions include pioneering textbooks like Fundamentals of Numerical Computation and Exploring ODEs, which emphasize computational techniques. His research explores complex fluid dynamics, parameter estimation in biological systems, and advanced numerical methods. He collaborates with engineers and clinicians to model tear film breakup mechanisms and their clinical implications in dry eye disease.
He advises the MS in Data Science program, fostering interdisciplinary education in data-driven problem-solving. His lab develops algorithms for image analysis and machine learning applications in biomedical contexts. Driscoll’s computational tools, such as the Schwarz-Christoffel Toolbox, are widely used in academic and industrial settings.
