Tobias Richards is a Professor at the University of Borås, affiliated with the Faculty of Textiles, Engineering and Business and the Swedish Centre for Resource Recovery. His research focuses on thermal treatment techniques such as pyrolysis, gasification, and combustion, particularly in resource recovery applications. He has been at the University of Borås since 2009, following a Master's and PhD in Chemical Engineering from Chalmers University of Technology, and a post-doctoral position at the University of Maine.
Education: MSc in Chemical Engineering with Engineering Physics (Chalmers University of Technology), PhD in Chemical Engineering Design and Forest Products (Chalmers University of Technology), Docent qualification.
Research interests include understanding primary reactions in plastic pyrolysis, catalytic effects, and sustainable waste-to-energy processes. His work aims to optimize gas yields and chemical production from biomass and plastic composites.
Advising and grants: Supervisor of five doctoral students funded by the Energy Agency, Nigerian government, University of Borås, Sida, and Sparbanksstiftelsen Sjuhärad. Active in securing research funding to advance resource recovery technologies.
