Tobias Putrih is a Lecturer at the Program in Art, Culture, and Technology within MIT's School of Architecture + Planning. His art practice explores the interplay between physical environments and digital tools, focusing on public spaces like cinemas, libraries, and galleries. He collaborates with architects, designers, and programmers to create temporary installations using materials like cardboard, plywood, and light. His work has been showcased globally, including solo exhibitions at MoMA, Centre Pompidou, and Fondazione Prada. Putrih holds an MFA from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana and studied at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf.
Research interests include utopian architecture, material experimentation, and the intersection of art with science and pedagogy. Notable projects include Order of Sweetness (2024) and Perceptron (2021), which reinterpret historical narratives through interdisciplinary methods. Awards include Slovenia's 2008 Prešeren Foundation Award.
Teaching focuses on artistic practice, transdisciplinary research, and spatial design. He splits his time between Ljubljana and Cambridge, contributing to MIT's Art, Culture, and Technology Program while maintaining international artistic collaborations.
