Prof. Dr. Tobias Licha serves as Professor of Hydrogeochemistry at Ruhr University Bochum since August 2019, following his role as head of the Hydrochemistry working group at the University of Göttingen (2008-2019). He recently held the position of acting director for the Institute of Geology, Mineralogy and Geophysics from April 2023 to March 2024. His academic trajectory includes an extraordinary professorship appointment at Göttingen in 2017 and leadership of hydrogeochemical research initiatives across both institutions.
His educational milestones feature:
- Dissertation completed at Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena (2003)
- Habilitation achieved at Georg-August-Universität Göttingen (2013)
Research centers on hydrogeochemical processes in groundwater systems, with emphasis on contaminant transport mechanisms, chemical indicator development for environmental diagnostics, and innovative aquatic monitoring methodologies. His work integrates field-based hydrogeological observations with laboratory-scale geochemical analysis to address water resource sustainability challenges, particularly focusing on process-indicator relationships in subsurface environments. This expertise led to guest editorship for special issues on groundwater monitoring in Grundwasser and the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.
Prof. Licha directs the Hydrogeochemistry working group (AG Hydrogeochemie) within Ruhr University Bochum's Institute of Geology, Mineralogy and Geophysics, maintaining active collaborations with professional networks including the German Geological Society's Hydrogeology Section (advisory board member), German Chemical Society (Analytical/Water Chemistry divisions), Friends of Groundwater, and Hochschullehrerbund. His operational base resides in office IA 5/59 with direct contact via tobias.licha@rub.de and +49 234 32 23987.
