Tobias Hof is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto Department of History, with a cross-appointment in the Department of Germanic Languages & Literature. He previously held the Hannah Arendt Visiting Chair for German and European Studies at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy (2022/2023) and has taught at institutions including the University of Munich, Washington University in St. Louis, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

His research focuses on the history of terrorism and counterterrorism, right-wing extremism, violence, fascism, and humanitarianism. Recent projects examine global emergency aid for Ethiopia in the 1970s/80s, far-right interpretations of fantasy/sci-fi media, and the transnational history of right-wing terrorism.
His publications bridge theoretical analysis with empirical case studies, appearing in academic presses (University of Toronto Press, Berghahn) and interdisciplinary venues. Trends include: 1) Historiographical critique of fascist regimes; 2) Transatlantic comparative frameworks for extremism; 3) Cultural reception studies in political contexts.
