Professor Tobias Bald leads the tumor immunology research group at University of Bonn's Institute for Experimental Epileptology and Cognition Research. His laboratory investigates resistance mechanisms to cancer immunotherapies using preclinical models and clinical samples integrated with single-cell transcriptomics and intravital imaging.
Research focuses on immunosuppressive neutrophil recruitment during immunotherapy, NK cell plasticity in tumor evasion, and CD155-mediated T cell dysfunction. Publications in high-impact journals including Immunity, Nature, and Cancer Discovery demonstrate contributions to understanding myeloid cell roles in treatment resistance.
Current projects examine neutrophil phenotypic regulation through c-MET signaling pathways, CD226 degradation mechanisms in cytotoxic T cells, and ILC1 conversion in tumor microenvironments. Collaborative work spans oncology, immunology, and experimental therapeutics to develop neutrophil-targeting combination therapies.
