Tobias B. Paul is a researcher affiliated with the Institute of Archaeology at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. He specializes in Egyptian and Coptic linguistics, focusing on language change, sociolinguistics, morphology, and phonology. His current research includes the B03 project investigating register variation in Egyptian-Coptic language and a doctoral study on language change processes from Older to Later Egyptian.
Education: M.A. in Archaeology and Cultural History of Northeast Africa; B.A. in Cultural Studies.
Research interests span historical linguistics, with particular attention to ancient Northeast African sociolinguistic contexts like the use of war elephants. He contributes to interdisciplinary frameworks linking archaeological and linguistic evidence.
Recent work includes presentations at the CENTRAL Joint Workshop on interdisciplinary mosaics of detail in research.
