Tino Johansson is a Researcher at the Department of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Helsinki, affiliated with the Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science (HELSUS) and Earth Change Observation Laboratory (ECHOLAB). He serves as a supervisor for the Doctoral Programme in Interdisciplinary Environmental Sciences and manages research projects in East Africa.
- Education: PhD in Geography.
- External Positions: Head of Environmental Health Theme and former Coordinator at International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (2011–2015).
His research focuses on climate-smart agriculture, species distribution modeling, and human-wildlife conflict mitigation in Eastern Africa. He integrates Earth observation technologies and GIS applications to address food security and ecosystem resilience.
Recent publications highlight his work on honey bee forage mapping via ensemble learning, conservation strategies for elephants in Kenya, and climate adaptation frameworks for smallholder farmers. His methodological innovations include multi-source satellite data integration.
