Dr. Tina Lam is a Senior Research Fellow and Program Lead for Alcohol Policy & Public Health Impact at Monash Addiction Research Centre (MARC), Monash University. Her work focuses on alcohol and opioid harms, stakeholder engagement, and translating research into public health outcomes. She leads influential research programs on risky drinking among adolescents and opioid-related harms, including the largest international study on opioid prescribing effects and the first population-level study identifying a 2014 heroin harm resurgence. Dr. Lam has secured over $3M in research funding, including $1M as principal investigator, and has published 28 papers (2019-2022), including five in the top journal Addiction.
She holds adjunct roles, including Adjunct Research Fellow at Curtin University (2018-2022). Her awards include the 2021 Monash Early Career Publication Prize, 2019 APSAD Poster Award, and 2013 McCusker Youth Award. Dr. Lam is Deputy Editor of Drug and Alcohol Review and a technical advisor for the World Health Organization and Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. She contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being.
Dr. Lam’s research spans alcohol policy, opioid surveillance, youth drinking, and harm reduction. Her projects include opioid poisoning surveillance, alcohol pricing systems, and healthy aging initiatives. She has produced 24 technical reports for bodies like WHO and 15 policy briefs. Media engagement includes over 100 stories in 12 months (2018) with 2.7M audience reach, and her work addresses issues like nightlife harm reduction, pre-drinking, and alcohol’s societal impacts.
