Timsal Masud is an Assistant Instructional Professor at the University of Chicago, specializing in Urdu language and literature. He has taught at the institution since 2019 and holds a PhD in Urdu from Lucknow University (2008), focusing on modern Persian short-story translations in Urdu.
- Research Interests: Translation studies, Urdu poetry (especially marsiya/elegy), devotional literature, legal cases, and personal writings.
- Key Projects: Completed a four-volume collection of Mir Anis's elegies (36,000 couplets), transliterated Urdu works to Devanagari script, and working on a book series about Awadh's last king, Wajid Ali Shah.
- Publications: Authored The Essential Urdu Dictionary (2015) and translated The Little Prince and Patrick Süskind's The Story of Mr. Sommer into Urdu.
