Dr. Timothy Wangler is a Lecturer at ETH Zürich's Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering, affiliated with the Institute for Building Materials (IfB). His research focuses on the intersection of chemical engineering, material science, and civil engineering, particularly in digital fabrication with concrete (DFC), swelling clays in cultural heritage, and anhydrite-to-gypsum conversion in tunnel engineering. He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University (2009) and has extensive postdoctoral experience at Empa and ETH Zürich.
Research Interests:
- Digital fabrication with concrete, including sustainability and durability challenges
- Inhibition of clay swelling in heritage sandstones
- Anhydrite conversion mechanisms in geotechnical contexts
- Leaching of biocides from building materials
Teaching:
- Concrete Technology
- Science and Engineering of Glass and Natural Stone in Construction
- Concrete Material Science
Lab/Team Affiliation: Group of Prof. Robert J. Flatt within the NCCR Digital Fabrication initiative.
