Timothy Synold

Timothy Synold, Pharm.D., is a Professor in the Department of Medical Oncology & Therapeutics Research at City of Hope, where he directs the Analytical Pharmacology Core and serves as scientific leader of the Phase I Clinical Trial team. He also directs Pharmacology for the NCI-supported California Cancer Consortium. With over 25 years of experience in clinical and molecular pharmacology, Dr. Synold specializes in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of anticancer agents.

His research focuses on:

• Blood-brain barrier mechanisms in CNS drug penetration
• Development of intracranial microdialysis techniques for neuropharmacokinetic studies
• Neural stem cell-mediated drug delivery systems for brain tumors
• Pharmacology of novel anticancer agents in early-phase clinical trials

He leads multiple NIH/NCI-funded projects including an $18M CIRM grant for stem cell-based glioma therapy.

Dr. Synold's recent publications demonstrate strong focus on neuropharmacology (40%), pharmacokinetic methodology (30%), and molecular pharmacology (30%), with emerging work in epigenetics and targeted therapy. Over 60% of his articles involve human clinical research.

Research Teams & Facilities: The Synold Lab specializes in analytical pharmacology and maintains the Intracranial Microdialysis Program – the largest clinical research platform of its kind in the U.S. Current collaborations include neural stem cell therapy projects with Dr. Karen Aboody and neuro-oncology studies with Dr. Jana Portnow.
