Timothy Steeves is the John Lewis Paton Distinguished Professor and University Research Professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland's School of Music. A renowned pianist, he co-founded Duo Concertante with violinist Nancy Dahn in 1997, achieving international acclaim for their performances and recordings. Their work spans classical masterpieces and contemporary commissions, with over 69 commissioned works. Steeves holds degrees from the University of Western Ontario and German academies in Hannover and Freiburg. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and has received multiple awards, including JUNO and East Coast Music Awards for recordings like Wild Bird and Ecology of Being.
His educational contributions include founding the Tuckamore Chamber Music Festival and teaching at Domaine Forget. He has performed globally at venues like Wigmore Hall and Carnegie Hall, blending classical traditions with innovative projects like music-film collaborations. His research interests focus on chamber music performance, historical interpretation, and fostering young musicians.
Steeves' discography includes acclaimed recordings of Beethoven, Bach, and commissioned works by Canadian composers.
