معرفی
Timothy Sibanda is an Associate Professor at the School of Molecular and Cell Biology, University of the Witwatersrand. He holds a PhD from Fort Hare University and specializes in Microbial Biotechnology. His research focuses on leveraging microorganisms to address global challenges such as food security under climate change, bioremediation, and public health threats from waterborne pathogens. Key areas include plant growth-promoting microbes for sustainable agriculture, antibiotic resistance dynamics, and microbial communities in environmental and clinical settings. His work bridges environmental microbiology, agricultural biotechnology, and public health, with over 40 peer-reviewed publications since 2000. Notable contributions include studies on extremophiles for crop resilience, microbial diversity in wastewater systems, and the role of microbial mats in bioremediation.
Education: BScHons, MSc, PhD (Fort Hare University).
Research Interests: Microbial biotechnology applications in agriculture and environmental management; microbial ecology of extreme environments; antibiotic resistance mechanisms; water quality and public health; bioremediation strategies for contaminated ecosystems.
Publications highlight his work on plant-microbe interactions, microbial communities in estuaries and industrial effluents, and the epidemiology of waterborne pathogens like cholera. His findings underscore the critical role of microbes in addressing climate change impacts and food security, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa.
