California Polytechnic State Universityمعرفی
Dr. Timothy McHale is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Anthropology at Cal Poly SLO, researching psychobiological responses to competition across development. His NSF-funded work examines how hormones mediate competitive behavior and regulate stress during childhood, using sports as naturalistic models for aggression and stress responses.
Education:
- PhD Biological Anthropology, University of Nevada, Las Vegas (2017)
- MSc Evolutionary Anthropology, Durham University (2011)
- BS Biology/BA Philosophy, University of Central Florida (2007)
His cross-cultural studies investigate adrenal hormone responses during social challenges (sports, eSports, academics) and how these responses relate to performance. Current projects analyze impacts of pubertal timing on competitive behaviors and physiological stress responses. With over 100 courses taught, he creates interdisciplinary learning environments bridging biology and anthropology.
Dr. McHale has published in Evolution and Human Behavior, Hormones and Behavior, and PNAS, receiving recognition including NSF Doctoral Fellowship and FMA Best Paper finalist. He serves as ad hoc reviewer for NIH and journals including Psychological Science.
