Dr. Timothy Rudd is a Lecturer in Education at the University of Hull, affiliated with the School of Education within the Faculty of Arts, Cultures, and Education. He previously held roles such as CEO/Founder of Livelab, Principal Lecturer at the University of Brighton, and Senior Researcher at Futurelab. His academic career includes associate positions at the Universities of York and Glasgow.
Dr. Rudd holds a PhD in Education from the University of Bristol (2003), focusing on "ICT and the Reproduction of Social Inequalities: A Bourdieuian Perspective." This work explored how information and communication technologies intersect with social stratification through a Bourdieusian theoretical lens.
His research interests span education and climate change, sociology of education, critical pedagogies, educational technology, and the politics of education. He employs narrative and biographical research methods to explore alternative educational systems and ideologies.
Rudd's recent publications (2016–2019) critically examine neoliberal education systems, reframing responses to imposed reforms, and exploring the role of narrative in professional identity. His work challenges systemic crises in higher education and analyzes frameworks like the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).
He currently supervises a PhD project on 'Education for the future: scoping out opportunities for environmental stewardship.' His professional projects include national/international initiatives like Egypt's Teachers First Programme and Brunei's Whole School ICT Development Project.
