Timothy P. Longman is a Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Boston University’s Pardee School of Global Studies, serving as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Director of the Institute on Culture, Religion, and World Affairs (CURA). He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a B.A. from Phillips University.
His research focuses on state-society relations in Africa, emphasizing human rights, transitional justice, religion’s intersection with politics, gender, and race/ethnicity. Recent work includes Memory and Justice in Post-Genocide Rwanda (2017) and Christianity and Genocide in Rwanda (2010), with a current book project on African church-state relations.
He previously directed BU’s African Studies Center for eight years. His research interests span democratization, post-conflict societies, and the political implications of religious institutions.
